C130 Tail Monument Project at RAF Brize Norton

Other Association matters.

We received an e-mail from F/O Sarah Body (see below) advising of a C130 Tail Monument Project at BZN asking for donations.  Having discussed this in committee, we felt that it was not appropriate to single out any one of the many types of aircraft flown by 24 Squadron to support.

As an association, we have limited finite resources and therefore have to be very selective on how we spend them, hence why all our social functions are self financing. This however does not prevent anyone who does wish to donate doing so, hence the attached e-mail.

Yours

The Association Committee.

C-130 Monument Project Fundraising
From: Sarah.Body
To: XXIV Squadron Association
I’m writing to you on behalf of the IC for the Hercules Tail Monument Project at RAF Brize Norton.
We’re currently in the process of constructing a monument to the C-130 in the form of a Hercules tail outside of Building 60, previously 47 Squadron. This is something we have been working towards for the past few years to celebrate the aircraft and personnel involved with the C-130 over its many years of service. Having members of our team who have previously served on a C-130 Squadron, we all think it’s important that we ensure such rich history is not forgotten.
We are currently nearing the final design stages and have reached a crucial point of fundraising for the project. For this reason, I am reaching out to you at the 24 Sqn Association as a key partner from the C-130’s time in service to ask for your support for the monument. We are looking for donations towards the cost of Sqn plaques which will be placed around the perimeter of the monument. These will include all Sqns that had an active role within the C-130’s history in the RAF. We’d be extremely grateful if you are able to donate towards this cost if at all possible.
If you would also like to donate towards the overall cost of the Herc Tail Monument, whilst we have made some great strides and received generous donations, we still have a way to go towards our target of £20,000. We’ll use these donations for the construction of the monument, which includes groundwork, lighting and labour.
If you would like to contribute, please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information on the project or to answer any questions you may have. I’d be more than happy to provide a more detailed plan and timeline for the monument.
Your support will ensure that the project comes to fruition, thank you for your time and consideration of this request, I hope to hear from you soon.
Warm regards,
