XXIV Association Reunion 2011 – Hotel Accomodation

Colin Eames, who lives local to Brize has confirmed that accommodation in the area is already at a premium over the weekend of our Reunion on the 1st October. In order to widen the scope of available hotels, we have confirmed with the coach company that they can pick up Association Members and guests at various locations in Burford & Witney.

Here is a summary as at 4 Aug 2011:-

Accommodation in Burford is generall clustered in or near the High Street to facilitate easy collection by bus (see post codes below). However prices vary from £85 – £199 per room B&B & the majority of rooms are expensive.

Look at:

The Bull at Burford OX18 4RG Tel: 01993 822220 – 11 doubles available @ £140 Burford House Hotel OX18 4QA Tel: 01993 823151 – 7 doubles available @ £179 – £199

Cotswold Gateway Hotel OX18 4HX Tel: 01993 822695 – 7 doubles & 5 Twins @ £125

The Lamb Inn OX18 4LW Tel: 01993 823155 – 4 doubles & 1 Twin @ £180

The Maytime Inn OX18 4HW Tel: 01993 822068 – 4 doubles @ £85

The Angel Hotel OX18 4SN Tel: 01993 822714 – 3 doubles @ £110

All have been reviewed on Trip advisor.com as has the cheap but very tatty Travelodge at Burford (£58pn) which is why it doesn’t feature on the above list.

The Four Pillars Witney has 20 double rooms available on both Fri & Sat nights @ £95 per room per night B&B. However, if the rooms are required only on Sat night the rate rises to £105 & the maximum number they will offer is 10 rooms. They do not expect to have 20 rooms available for very long.

Recommendation  – to encourage Association Members to stay at the Oxford Four Pillars Hotel Witney Tel: 01993 779777 http://oxford-witney-hotel.four-pillars.co.uk The price is reasonable (£95) & no other single hotel in the area can offer 20 double rooms. Witney is a pleasant market town with things to see & do during the day on Saturday & Sunday for those that want to get out & about. The journey to Brize is relatively easy along the A40 (dual carriageway) & takes about 15 minutes.

Given the paucity of rooms available at this time, Colin has made a provisional block booking (no financial penalty at this stage) for all 20 rooms which will be held until 19 August to allow individual members to confirm their rooms (reference code to follow shortly) using a UK credit card as their personal guarantee as per normal hotel cancellation policies.

Bottom line Whatever your decision, you need to move quickly to secure sufficient rooms for members wishing to stay in the Brize area that weekend.
