Summer Lunch Social 2008

Summer Social at the Pear Tree

Summer Social at the Pear Tree

Nick Yerbury has been in touch to say that he and Jackie cannot host pre-lunch drinks at Purton on Wed 4 June after all. On closer examination of their 2008 schedule, they now find they are committed to an overseas trip during the period 1-8 June. However, Nick confirms they would be able and delighted to provide such hospitality one week later, ie on Wed 11 June. He has also spoken with the proprietor of the “Pear Tree” at Purton who says he could provide a good lunch for our members for about £16 per head. This pub is within walking distance of Nick’s house.

So after a brief flurry of emails between the committee we have now settled on Wed 11th June 2008. Please amend your diaries.

Here is a quick update to say that numbers are coming along quite nicely. We have just over 20 as at 13th May for the Lunch at the Pear Tree

The proposed format for the day is as follows: – 11:00 -11:30 – Rendezvous at the home of Nick Yerbury, Ivy Lodge, High Street, Purton, Wilts, SN5 4AD for pre lunch meet and greet. The Pear Tree lunch menu will be on display at Nick’s and we order on arrival and do a bulk phone call before walking or driving to the Pear Tree Hotel.

13:00 – Onwards. Its time to sit down for a two course (£16:00) or 3 course (£19.50) lunch, (its entirely up to you) and enjoy the afternoon. Post lunch – free to tour local area or return home.

Here is a brief report for the Blog to say that the the Summer Social at Purton was a big hit with all 27 members and guests. The weather was just about right with us all being able to enjoy a pre lunch drink and chat outside the rear of Ivy Lodge before making our way to the Pear Tree, about half a mile away.

It was also very good news that the new OC XXIV Squadron W/C Andy Bacon, who has been in post for only 4 weeks, along with his two execs, was able to join us and meet the Committee and members.

Our party took up all the conservatory with an excellent outlook over the grounds and everyone was soon in full chatter mode. The Hotel staff ALMOST kept things flowing without a hitch with the compensation that the taste and presentation of the food was top notch. The downside was that the minutes flew by before most of the party had to break up around 3pm.

This summer social looks like it has set a benchmark for others to match up to.
