Hello,
As an "ex" 24Sqn aviator(contemporary of Clive's), I was interested to come upon the pilot's log book of one, Ralph Fisher, who flew with various units during WW2, and passed at least a year with "24", based mostly at Hendon, in the closing years of the war. W/O Fisher flew most of the "twins" operated by the Sqn at the time and will certainly feature in operations details of the period. He survived the war to become, I think, a school teacher, live to a fine old age.
Please contact me if you feel that this piece of history might be of interest or useful to the "history room".
                                            Yours, H.H. "Steve" Stevenson

A letter in this week from S/L Al Tano about the photo Albums.

To keep you abreast of the photo album project, we have ordered three albums to cover 1991-2000, 2001-2010 and 2011-2020. The first was sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Carmen and the second by the Association's very kind donation at the annual dinner. I had planned to ask the current flight commanders to sponsor the third but have been outdone by Clive and Sheila Harley's generosity.

The first album has arrived on the Squadron and the second and third are expected within three weeks. To ensure that the generosity of all involved is recorded I will have a certificate, displaying the sponsors' details affixed to the inside front cover of each album. When this is completed I will send you, Clive and Sheila photographs of the finished albums.

Would you please pass on XXIV Squadron's wholehearted thanks to the XXIV Squadron Association?

Well did the 2008 Reunion all go OK - the answer is a YES once again

The weather was not up to its usual standard for the first week in October but it was quite cosy eating lunch together in the crew room. A good briefing form the new OC XXIV Squadron, W/C Andy Bacon and his team on current events and some interesting trips to the flight Simulator, Static C130J and a briefing from 47AD Squadron.

The day was rounded off by an excellent Ladies Guest Night in the Sergeants Mess before carriages came along at midnight to end a perfect evening.

The Royal Mail will be issuing a set of stamps on the 17th July 2008 entitled Air Display to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of the Farnborough Air show.

I usually by the post card set as a useful collection set.

Here is a brief report for the Blog to say that the the Summer Social at Purton was a big hit with all 27 members and guests. The weather was just about right with us all being able to enjoy a pre lunch drink and chat outside the rear of Ivy Lodge before making our way to the Pear Tree, about half a mile away.

It was also very good news that the new OC XXIV Squadron W/C Andy Bacon, who has been in post for only 4 weeks, along with his two execs, was able to join us and meet the Committee and members.

Our party took up all the conservatory with an excellent outlook over the grounds and everyone was soon in full chatter mode. The Hotel staff ALMOST kept things flowing without a hitch with the compensation that the taste and presentation of the food was top notch. The downside was that the minutes flew by before most of the party had to break up around 3pm.

This summer social looks like it has set a benchmark for others to match up to.

Had an email from Roger Sleaman who spotted the sad news about David Carter. They were together at Colerne on Hastings and did a memorable detachment to the Caribbean. He met up with him having breakfast in Seattle when he was collecting an A/C from Boeing and Roger was on a night stop with BA. He was a super companion, and Roger would like to pass on his condolences to the family.
